Hypnotherapy for children and young people
Children and young people respond well to hypnotherapy. This is because they are able to use their imagination to bring about change.
Hypnotherapy is recognised as a treatment option by the National Health Service (NHS) and the Professional Standards Authority (the UK Parliamentary regulator for Healthcare), and year on year, more parents are turning to hypnotherapy to help their children overcome behavioural problems, increase confidence and tackle anxiety.
The child learns to use relaxation techniques and will be given suggestions of positive mental images, which is similar to day dreaming, it is through this imagery and story telling that the child becomes able to have more control over their body and their responses to stress.
A child that has nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting) will be taught how the bladder and kidneys work and why bedwetting happens. Medical reasons for the bedwetting will be explored and if no medical cause has been found, hypnosis can be used. Hypnosis can help the child understand the feelings and sensations of a full bladder and how to wake up to these sensations.
