Choosing a hypnotherapist can be difficult, especially as we live in a world where we are bombarded with adverts for services daily on social media. Unfortunately, there are people out there, that are advertising as hypnotherapists, that have not had any recognised training. I have seen adverts for companies that promise that after 1 weekend of training, you can then set up in business as a hypnotherapist.
Firstly, check out that the therapist is registered with either or both, the National Council for Hypnotherapy or the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council. Memberships of either of these professional bodies ensures that the therapist is qualified and insured. To remain registered with these bodies, the therapist has to complete Continued Professional Development and have clinical supervision. If you are looking for a therapist for your child/young person, ask what extra studying the therapist has completed and what experience they have had of working with children. Being able to engage with children and young people is a special skill.
Shop around, look at websites and what they offer. Free consultations to have a chat to see if it is right for you or your child is a good place to start.
Go with your instincts and speak to the therapist. I believe that the right people show up at the right time. So maybe I am the right person, or maybe not, but it is worth filling out the contact form. You never know, it might just change your life or the life of your child.
