Frequently Asked Questions

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a gentle, natural way to help you make positive changes in your life. Using relaxation and focused attention, it works with your subconscious mind to support  things like reducing stress, changing habits, and building confidence.

Will I lose control during hypnosis?

No, not at all. You’re always in control. Most people find it feels similar to being deeply relaxed—like when you’re daydreaming or just drifting off. You’ll still hear everything and can come out of it whenever you like.

What can hypnotherapy help with?

People come for all sorts of reasons, including:

  • Feeling anxious or stressed
  • Fears and phobias
  • Stopping smoking
  • Weight management
  • Sleep troubles
  • Building confidence
  • Letting go of unwanted habits

If you’re not sure if it’s right for you, just get in touch for a chat.

What happens during a session?

Sessions are relaxed and tailored to you. We’ll start with a conversation about what you’d like help with, then I’ll guide you into a calm, focused state where we can work on your goals. You’ll be gently brought back to full awareness at the end.

How many sessions will I need?

Everyone’s different. Some people notice a real shift after just a couple of sessions, while others prefer a bit more time and support.  At the assessment appointment I will give you an indication around the recommended number of sessions.

Will it work for me?

Most people can benefit from hypnotherapy, especially if you’re open to the process and ready for change. It’s very much a team effort—we work together to help you get the results you’re looking for.

Is hypnotherapy safe?

Yes, it’s completely safe when carried out by a trained professional. It’s a natural state that your mind goes into every day—you’re simply guided through it in a focused way. Please note that hypnosis is not recommended for people who have or have had psychosis.

What does it feel like?

It’s usually a lovely, calming experience. You might feel very relaxed, both mentally and physically, but still aware of what’s going on around you

How should I prepare?

There’s nothing complicated:

  • Wear something comfortable
  • Come along with an open mind
  • Avoid alcohol beforehand
  • Have a wee think about what you’d like to get out of it

Is it a replacement for medical treatment?

Hypnotherapy can work really well alongside other treatments, but it’s not a substitute for medical advice or care from your GP.

How do I get started?

Just reach out to book your first appointment or have a no-obligation chat. I’m always happy to answer any questions and help you decide if it’s right for you.
